Group Governance Council
Since December 2011, the Group Governance Council (GGC) has included independent external members elected by the Partners at our General Meeting. This additional step towards greater independence illustrates our desire to ensure that supervision of the Group is as impartial as possible and that joint decision-making powers are exercised with the highest level of independence. The current Group Governance Council was elected by the General Meeting of Partners in December 2020.
The GGC is in charge of overseeing the proper functioning of our organisation worldwide and the independent non-executives are expected to make a contribution to all aspects of its work. In particular one of the key objectives of their role is to enhance the confidence of our clients’ shareholders in the public interest aspects of the firm’s decision‐making, stakeholder dialogue and management of reputational risks including those in the firm’s businesses that are not effectively addressed by regulation.
The elected independent member on the GGC is Denise Fletcher, first appointed in 2012. Denise also serves on or chairs the following committees:
- The Group Audit Committee;
- The Group Governance and Remuneration Committee;
- The Group Risk Committee; and
- The Public Interest Committee.
