Stephen Lewis Managing Partner Birmingham - Crisis & Disputes

Stephen is the Office Managing Partner for Birmingham and is a Partner in the Crisis and Disputes team. Stephen is an experienced forensic accountant who has worked in the context of a wide range of dispute resolution, investigation and other forensic accounting cases.

Experience

Stephen is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He has specialised in forensic accountancy for over 20 years and is routinely appointed in a wide range of complex dispute resolution and investigation cases.

He has substantial experience in preparing expert witness reports and advising instructing solicitors in complex accounting, quantum and valuation disputes in the UK and internationally.

His work includes assessing damages and valuations in disputes. This often requires reviewing large volumes of financial records and preparing complex financial models.

Stephen has given oral evidence in the High Court, the Royal Court of Justice of Jersey, International Arbitrations and Investment Treaty Arbitrations. He also has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and expert determination.

Stephen’s experience also includes matters involving allegations of fraud and account manipulation.

Work highlights

• Stephen was an expert witness in an ICSID Arbitration in a matter to assess the damages where a regulated financial services business was placed into compulsory liquidation.
• Assessment of the valuation of a portfolio of loans and bonds held by a bank following a restructuring of the debt instruments.
• He was an expert witness in a dispute between a European motor liability insurer and its third-party claims management company, following the termination of the claims management delegated authority agreement.
• Stephen was instructed as an expert advisor in a claim for breach of warranty in the pharmaceutical sector, involving an assessment of revenue recognition on long-term contracts.
• He was an expert witness in a breach of warranty claim following an automotive manufacturing sector transaction across the US, South America and Sweden.
