Mark Boughey Partner - Restructuring and Insolvency

Mark has over 25 years' experience supporting and advising under-performing, financially stressed and insolvent companies and their key stakeholders.

His clients include Company Directors, Shareholders, Banks, Asset Based Lenders, Alternative Funders, Private Equity, Industry Regulators and Pension Trustees.

Mark is a qualified Chartered Accountant and licensed Turnaround and Insolvency Practitioner.

Experience 

Throughout his career, Mark has supported his clients to deliver a range of positive outcomes. His experience includes successful corporate turnarounds, financial restructurings, accelerated business sales, refinancings (both debt and equity), business advisory engagements, pension covenant reviews, solvent liquidations, and formal insolvency appointments.

Mark has experienced valuable industry secondments to the Financial Services sector, with Lloyds Banking Group and Bibby Financial Services.

He works across a range of sectors and industries and with all sizes of companies, including owner-managed regional businesses, through to large global PLCs. He has a particular specialism in Asset Based Lending and in the Hotel, Leisure, Consumer, Technology, Real Estate, Charity, Education and Manufacturing sectors.

He is a member of the Charity Commissions Interim Manager Panel. 

Mark leads the Special Situations Group at the firm. This is a multi-disciplinary national team that includes M&A, Debt Advisory, Transaction Support, Valuations, Tax and Restructuring. It is focused on supporting clients with transactions that typically feature an element of financial distress, require strong stakeholder engagement and have a requirement to be delivered under accelerated time-frames.

  • Real Estate and Leisure: Trading administration, partial sale and solvent restructuring of an independent chain of 6 hotels in the South West.
  • Engineering: Independent business review and debt capacity modelling of a Cornwall based specialist manufacturer.
  • Real Estate, Leisure and Retail: Trading administration and going concern sale of a hotel, food wholesaler and convenience store group. Solvent outcome with 100% return to all creditors and shareholder distribution.
  • Leisure (Nightclubs and Bars): Independent financial review, trading administration and going concern sale of the UK’s largest independent nightclub group.
  • Food Manufacturing: Multi-phase bank led review of a South West based £15m turnover Cornish Pasty manufacturer.
  • Charity : As Interim manager, led the successful sale of specialist school for autistic children and subsequent wind down of the insolvent charity.
  • Further Education: Independent financial review and restructuring support for a leading south coast college.
  • Care : Administration and going concern sale of Bristol based 40 bed care home.
  • Wholesale : Cash flow review and controlled wind-down of the UK’s largest independent bathroom wholesaler, resulting in a substantial return to unsecured creditors.
  • Food Manufacturing: Administration and going concern sale of a sweet/bonbon manufacturing business.
