Partner - Head of Innovation Incentives
Gary is a Tax Partner and is Head of our UK Innovation Incentives team. He is responsible for the direction and management of the UK team, which is engaged in the provision and maintenance of best practice for the R&D tax and Patent Box service for clients.
He also leads our Global R&D group that coordinates the provision of Innovation Incentives support to clients of the firm internationally.
Experience
Gary has over 30 years’ experience working in tax advisory services, most of which were spent in the Big Four advising listed and multinational corporations.
He has also obtained extensive experience helping start-ups and privately owned businesses to achieve their goals and succeed.
His technical focus is assisting businesses to obtain UK R&D tax credits (both under the RDEC and SME scheme), HMRC dispute and resolution services, advising on UK Patent Box and the provision of Intellectual Property tax advice to businesses in the UK and internationally. He regularly provides highly proficient and commercial solutions to businesses in sectors such as Information Technology, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals and Engineering.

Gary is a regular commentator on R&D tax matters and contributes to debates that seek to influence the structure and effectiveness of the R&D tax regime, representing the interests of his clients and innovative businesses operating in the UK.
He is the headline author of the latest edition of the UK's most widely used technical publication on R&D tax and Patent Box which was published in 2023.
