Hotel quarantine
Travellers entering the UK from any of the 33 ‘red list” countries will need to quarantine in a hotel room for 10 days, costing up to £1750 per traveller. Booking will go live on Thursday 11th February 2021.
Testing
Pre- departure testing has been required since 18th January 2021, but from Monday 15th February 2021 all international arrivals will need to take further tests on day 2 and 8 of their quarantine period, and these tests must be pre-booked online prior to travel to the UK.
Before being permitted to travel passenger carriers will be required to ensure that the traveller has adhered to the rules and has pre booked their hotel quarantine accommodation and day 2 and 8 tests.
Deterrents
Fixed penalty fines of up to £10,000 will be in place for not adhering to these requirements and a prison sentence of up to 10 years for anyone who is found to have concealed they have traveled in a red list country.
Anyone arriving in the UK from a country not on the “red list” must quarantine at home for 10 days
The “red list” counties as at 11 February 2021 are as follows:
Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Burundi, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Eswatini, French Guiana, Guyana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal (including Madeira and the Azores), Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Suriname, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Uruguay, Venezuela, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
