Mazars and leading financial think tank OMFIF have partnered to find out:
- What policy adjustments are central banks undertaking to assess and control climate risks?
- How are these actions likely to develop in the future?
Join us on Tuesday 18 February 2020 where we will present the key findings of our survey of 33 central banks across 6 regions, followed by a panel discussion with banking industry and regulatory experts. The discussion will explore the evolution of financial regulation and the implication for banks and other financial institutions. Rudi Lang (Partner and Leader of the Global Financial Institutions Group) will be facilitating the conversation between the following panellists and speakers:

Biographies
Morgan Després
Morgan is Deputy Head of the Financial Stability Department at the Banque de France and also serves as the Head of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) Secretariat. He joined the Banque de France in 2005 and served in the Payment and Settlement Systems Department and as Deputy Head of the Macroprudential Division. Other professional experience includes a secondment as Deputy Head of the Financial Stability Unit within the French Treasury Department and technical assistance missions for the IMF. Morgan holds an MBA from ESSEC business school, graduated from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and studied at the Harvard Extension School.
Chris Faint
Chris has responsibility for developing and implementing the Bank's strategic approach to climate change. He has been particularly focused on the PRA’s supervisory approach to addressing the financial risks arising from climate change and the development of the Bank's climate stress test. Beyond climate, Chris has responsibility for the authorisation, supervision and analysis of foreign firms operating in the UK. Prior to working at the Bank, Chris held roles at HM Treasury and Ernst and Young, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
Zoë Knight
Zoë is a Managing Director and Group Head of the HSBC Centre of Sustainable Finance which she set up in 2018. The Centre collaborates with colleagues across HSBC and external partners to produce thought leadership on critical issues to scale up and mobilise capital to address sustainability challenges, particularly climate change. Since joining HSBC in 2010, Zoë has co-authored reports on low-carbon opportunities in bond and equity markets, as well as long-term carbon and water risks. She has worked in financial markets providing advisory services to a global client base since 1997. Zoë is a Commissioner on the Energy Transition Commission and is a Member of the WEF Global Future Council on Global Public Goods in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Leonie Schreve
Leonie Schreve (Managing Director) is responsible to drive, promote and generate sustainable business opportunities for ING’s Wholesale Bank globally. This includes accelerating innovative business opportunities like circular economy, green bonds and loans and more established business like green buildings, energy efficiency, renewables, water, etc.
Before joining the commercial side of the bank Leonie headed the Environmental Social Risk Management team and introduced the new topic of sustainability risk management. Leonie represents ING in the board of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP FI Banking Commission) and has acted as Chair of the Equator Principles Steering Committee till 2013.
Leonie joined ING in 2004. Before that she was Management Consultant at a technical consultancy and independent consultant in Costa Rica. She has significant international experience working with private and public sector clients on sustainability. She pioneered in the early days of Sustainability and led change processes by setting up the ESR and Sustainable Finance team at ING. Leonie holds a Master in Environmental Science, Business Ethics and International Sports Management.
Danae Kyriakopoulou
Danae Kyriakopoulou is Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF), based in London. Her research focuses on areas relevant to global public policy and investment institutions such as central banks, sovereign funds and public pension funds. These range from monetary policy and financial regulation to reserve management, investment policy and governance. She is a frequent speaker and contributor on these themes in international publications, conferences and the media. Previously she was Managing Economist at the Centre for Economics and Business Research. She has also served as Economic Adviser to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales for the regions of sub-Saharan Africa and Greater China and has worked at the Bank of Greece. She holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and an MSc in Economics for Development from Oxford University. She is fluent in German, Greek and Spanish.
David Marsh
David Marsh is Chairman and Co-Founder of OMFIF. Before starting at OMFIF in late 2009, he worked for City merchant bank Robert Fleming, corporate finance boutique Hawkpoint, German management consultancy Droege and London investment firm London & Oxford. Marsh took over the chairmanship from John Plender on 1 January 2018 having been Managing Director since 2014. He moved to a non-executive role following John Orchard’s appointment as Chief Executive effective 1 January 2020.
Marsh is a Board Member of Henderson Eurotrust and the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany, and visiting Professor at Sheffield University and King’s College London. He is former co-founder, chairman and deputy chairman of the German-British Forum. He was made Commander of the British Empire in 2000 and was awarded the German Order of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz) in 2003.
He started his career at Reuters in 1973 having graduated with a BA in chemistry from The Queen’s College Oxford. Between 1978 and 1995 he worked for the Financial Times in France and Germany, latterly as European Editor in London. Marsh has written six books: Six Days in in September – Black Wednesday, Brexit and the Making of Europe (2017, with William Keegan and Richard Roberts); Europe’s Deadlock: How the Crisis Could Be Solved – And Why It Won’t Happen (2013); The Euro – The Politics of the New Global Currency (2009 – re-released in 2011 as The Battle for the New Global Currency); Germany and Europe – The Crisis of Unity (1994); The Bundesbank – The Bank that Rules Europe (1992); and Germany – Rich, Bothered and Divided (1989 – re-released in 1990 as The New Germany.
Leila Kamdem-Fotso
Leila is a Partner within the UK Financial Services team, in charge of leading our portfolio solutions offering.
She is an experienced management consultant with 15 years of experience providing regulatory and transformation advisory services to banking organisations in the UK, France and across Europe.
Leila has led the delivery of several assignments on behalf of regulators and public authorities, including the Prudential Regulatory Authority, the European Commission and Her Majesty’s Treasury in the UK.
As part of her role in the Financial Services Consulting team, Leila is responsible for promoting our sustainable finance and climate change service offering for the banking industry in the UK.
She was responsible for co-leading the delivery of the Mazars / OMFIF research project on banking regulation and supervision in relation to climate change.
Leila is a French Chartered Accountant. She has a Masters in Accounting and Finance from Paris Dauphine University.
Rudi Lang
Rudi has been with Mazars for 20 years, working in Germany, UK and at Mazars Group level. He has extensive financial services experience, working with some of Mazars’ largest clients as well as European regulators and public authorities.
As part of his leadership role in the Global Financial Institutions practice, Rudi is responsible for promoting our sustainable finance and climate change service offering for the banking industry.
Rudi has led complex, cross border regulatory projects, large scale projects around European restructuring and special risk management assignments for international banking clients. He has been engaged in Prudential Capital Assessment Reviews and Asset Quality Reviews for a number of European banks and acts as a skilled person for regulators in the UK and across Europe. Rudi is also acting as Monitoring Trustee in prominent state aid and merger control cases.
Rudi is a German Certified Chartered Accountant and a member of the ICAEW. He has a Masters in Economics and Finance Theory from the University of Cologne and he has recently completed the Cambridge University course on business sustainability management. Fluent in French, English and his native German, Rudi speaks regularly at internal and external seminars and conferences on regulatory and industry matters around the globe.
Rudi is a member of Mazars Group’s Executive Board where he has responsibility for driving business development across its global network.
