On 24 June 2022, the Hong Kong Government gazetted the Amendment Bill, introducing changes to the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance (Cap. 615) (“AMLO”). We will mainly highlight the passage of anti-money laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (Amendment) Bill 2022 in this company secretarial newsletter.
The Amendment Bill seeks to reinforce Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre (1) by enhancing its regulatory regime for combating money laundering and terrorist financing and (2) by formulating a comprehensive and balanced regulatory framework for virtual asset activities to protect investors.
