Mazars participated in "Job Fair for Fresh Graduates"
The Job Fair was targeted to provide an insight to fresh graduates in respect of employment market information, entry requirements and interview techniques for the four "hottest" industries in Hong Kong – Banking & Finance, Hotel & Tourism, Information & Technology and Accounting. There were over 100 attendees, mainly undergraduates from local and overseas universities.
Our Practising Director, Edmund Chan, presented to the audience the market trends in the accounting profession, entry requirements and promotion path, job duties and interview techniques. He addressed the increasing demand and opportunities for the profession following the confirmation of Hong Kong's financial centre status in China's 11th 5-year plan and the worldwide trend of increasing emphasis on corporate governance. He also mentioned the required attributes of an audit associate, which include mainly communication and interpersonal skills, language skills ("two written languages and three spoken codes"), analytical and critical attitude of mind, general knowledge, team spirit and business as well as common sense. Specifically, general knowledge is important because we, as auditors, need to have a wide range of knowledge for better understanding of a client's business and communicating with them.
Mazars Audit Associate, Joe Lam, who has been working with our firm for 2.5 years, also shared his real-life experiences in Mazars. He said that he has travelled frequently, both within and outside Hong Kong, and therefore such a position in our firm or similar audit firms would be particularly suitable for those who enjoy working in different locations.
The attendees were keen to ask questions during and after the Q&A session. We received resumes from some of the attendees immediately after the seminar!
