Day in the life at Mazars - Marcus Cutuli
5:00am
Starting the day bright and early, I wake up to my morning alarm and hit the ground running with a healthy dose of cardio at my favourite running spot at Kangaroo Point. Accompanied by a friend and a pre-workout boost, we’re ready to go kill the day. We are both running a half marathon in two months’ time, so it is important we stay in shape.
7:00am
A great way I like to recover after a sweat-inducing run is to plunge into my pool to cool off and get my brain revitalised.
I then have a quick shower and have breakfast, consisting of three Weetbix sprinkled with sliced banana. Now it’s time to head to the train station, which takes me about 10 minutes to drive to, followed by a 15-minute train ride to Central Station.
7:40am
As I hop off the train, I'm greeted by the high-spirited atmosphere of the city, complemented by a picturesque blue sky and the beats of Daft Punk’s Discovery album. It's the perfect start to a productive day ahead.
8:00am
As I exit the 12th floor, after I put my lunch in the fridge and take a complementary apple and muesli bar from the café, I go to my designated desk, say good morning to my team and go through my emails, check my calendar and prepare myself for the busy day ahead.
8:30am
At the beginning of the week, our team likes to start by having a team meeting in one of the meeting rooms on our level. Since some of our team members are in Clark in the Philippines, I setup a group zoom call to ensure they’re included. It is fantastic having such a diverse team that span across different facets of life. Engaging and learning from them has been extremely valuable for my own personal development and growing my professional network. In today’s meeting, we begin a new month, where the Partner will usually run through the team performance for the prior month and discuss what lies on the horizon. The manager follows by providing some scope for the week ahead and ensures everyone within the team has a designated job to work on.
9:30am
Once the meeting is wrapped up, it's time for some coffee! I head straight to the café on our level and make myself a long black. Our financial advisory services team specialises in businesses from the agribusiness sector. For the past few weeks, I have been working alongside a client who's looking to develop a new banking relationship, and I've been tasked with developing a detailed cashflow model for them in Excel. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to showcase my skills and make a positive impact on the client's operations.
10:00am
I have an eagerly anticipated meeting scheduled with my manager to discuss some queries I have about the model I've been working on and the inner workings of the current trading facility our clients are utilising. Luckily, my manager is incredibly approachable and generous with his time, so I relish the opportunity to connect with him in person instead of relying solely on email or zoom. With a keen mind and a pen at the ready, I take detailed notes summarising the key points we discussed and now I am ready to put my excel skills to the test.
11:30am
Another team member has just come over for my assistance regarding a slideshow he is putting together for a presentation on a decarbonation strategy for a school in Central Queensland. Our team is very passionate about developing corporate sustainability solutions for agricultural businesses, recognising the critical role they play in building a more sustainable and low-carbon future for all. I have been assigned to create a timeline outlining each step involved in the decarbonisation strategy and how the school can effectively achieve these targets with our expertise.
1:30pm
My stomach grumbles with hunger, so I take a break from work to head downstairs to the bustling main cafe. I retrieve last night's delicious spagbol from the fridge and join my colleagues for a well-deserved lunch break.
2:30pm
With a full belly and a renewed sense of energy, I return to my desk to continue editing the model I was working on earlier.
4:00pm
The day flies by and before I know it, it's 4:00 at which point I receive a call from a subcontractor who's been providing assistance with the model I have been working on. He's eager for a progress update and wants to know if I need anything from the client. I provide a brief rundown of the changes I have made throughout the day and ask him to touch base tomorrow for his review points.
5:30pm
After a productive day at work, I set off on my journey home.
6:30pm
Upon arriving home, I change into something comfortable and head to the kitchen to whip up a delicious dinner for myself.
7:30pm
After dinner I realise that I have a spare few hours before I go to bed to write out some of my maths assignment that is due this coming Friday. I have to make sure I use every hour I have available!
10:00pm
Time to unwind with some Netflix, think I’ll rewatch my favourite Suits episodes tonight. Another successful day under my belt.
