Thailand’s Revenue Department Must Chase After Trillions
Keyword: Thailand, Revenue Department, Tax
“I felt no small sense of angst the other day upon hearing the complaints voiced by the director-general of the Revenue Department, about the lack of staff, of funds and of adequate IT systems to handle the workload at the height of the country's tax season.” Wichit Chantanusornsiri, a senior business reporter for the Bangkok Post, said.
The implications are that with greater resources, the department would be more efficient in carrying out its duties and collecting the funds that help pay for our roads, hospitals, education and public services.
Better databases and more trained staff could help the department clamp down on tax evasion and ensure equitable treatment for all citizens, a principle that cannot be understated in its importance to the overall wellbeing of society.
