99-year state land lease scheme considered

The government is now considering a new lease scheme to make it more attractive to investors. According to the applicable law, the law allows a 30-year maximum lease period, with the possibility of renewing the lease for additional 30-year periods which it is unattractive to major investors.

As trade and investment competition has become more intense and with the arrival of the ASEAN Economic Community, the government has indicated that it plans to amend the law to allow foreign investors to lease state land for up to 99 years. The amendment of the commercial and industrial lease in immovable property law will extend the maximum lease term for state land from 55 to 99 years and the 99-year land lease will be merely limited to business investments.
