The Draft Digital I.D. Act

Therefore, to expedite transactions that require someone’s identity to be verified, the Thai Cabinet approved, in principle, a draft Digital I.D. Act on 11 September 2018 encouraging the authentication and verification of someone’s identity through a digital platform.
Under the Act, the Electronic Transaction Committee will be empowered to set out criteria, means, and requirements, and punitive measures in regard to using a digital platform to verify someone’s identity covering the three aspects below:
1. Monitoring and controlling a service provider providing identity verification services through the platform;
2. Monitoring and controlling the entity providing the proxy server used to connect to the platform; and
3. Protecting personal data.
