SMART Visa program restructuring

The Cabinet approved the removal of Smart Visa categories that overlap with the LTR Visa and other existing visa types. This decision is based on the LTR Visa’s more comprehensive qualifications and superior benefits compared to the Smart Visa.

However, an exception has been made for the SMART-S visa, which is specifically designed for start-up entrepreneurs, particularly those with established start-ups operating for at least two years. This category will be retained because no other visas offer similar benefits and flexible conditions tailored to the unique needs of start-ups. By preserving the SMART-S visa, Thailand aims to continue fostering its start-up ecosystem and attracting innovative businesses.

The government then requested relevant agencies, such as the Board of Investment, the Immigration Bureau, and the Department of Employment, to revise existing regulations and implement the changes related to the amendments of the LTR Visa criteria and the Smart Visa program promptly.
