Sustainability for privately owned businesses
Every business is different, whether that’s in size, ambition, or even geography. But all of them have a connected topic that needs to be addressed: sustainability.
After multiple delays, the European Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence – comprising mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence (mHREDD) – was published on February 23, 2022. The draft legislation proposes extensive new due diligence requirements for over 13,000 European and 4,000 non-European companies providing products or services in the EU. The proposed obligations cover established business relationships across all tiers of the value chain and provide for non-compliance to be sanctioned with fines at the member state level.
In this webinar, we highlighted the particular importance of purchasing departments for the sustainability performance of companies as well as discussed potential business cases and new EU directive. Panelists also discussed the importance of supply chain management for achieving sustainability commitments, the integration of social and environmental risk assessment and management, and practical tools and approaches to supplier engagement.
Supply chains are also key to the fight against climate change. Why? Because they generate around 60% of all carbon emissions globally. Fixing supply chain sustainability is therefore an essential step for companies in getting to net-zero.
