The Organisation

South East Technological University (SETU) was established in May 2022, enabled by new legislation and the merger of two former Institutes of Technology that had been central to economic, social and cultural life in the southeast for fifty years. As a multi-campus technological university, SETU serves its 18,000+ learners across campuses in Waterford, Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow and Kilkenny and employs almost 2,000 staff. The University is redefining the educational and economic landscape of the southeast, offering student-centred education and committing to innovation and impact, delivering world-class research and elevating the southeast as a hub of excellence.

The Role

The Senior Vice-President, Academic will lead the overall strategic academic direction of SETU. They will hold the position of Deputy President and deputise for the President on any university matter. They will ensure that academic activity aligns with the mission, vision and values of the University and they will support the research agenda, playing a key part in accomplishing SETU’s academic goals as set out in the University’s strategic plan. The Senior Vice-President, Academic will have responsibility for academic resourcing and academic planning and they will guide the relevant Vice-Presidents in support and development of the academic experience of students and the research profile of SETU.

The Person

The successful candidate will have experience of commitment to academic excellence and the positive academic experience of students, as well as a proven history of strong external relationships and partnerships, including with enterprises, public sector bodies, agencies and other universities. The candidate will so have experience of engagement within Higher Education on a national or international scale and an understanding of policy, funding and Government environment as it relates to higher education.
