Proclamation moves Ninoy Aquino Day to August 23, 2024

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has announced that the holiday for August 21, 2024, has been moved to August 23, 2024, to provide a long weekend.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has released Proclamation No. 665, series 2024 announcing that the August 21, 2024 (Wednesday) holiday, has now been moved to August 23, 2024 (Friday). The Proclamation was issued on August 15, 2024, and was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, made under the authority of the President.

This proclamation serves as an amendment to Proclamation No. 368, series 2023, which originally announced the regular and special non-working holidays for 2024.

In order to provide for a longer weekend thereby promoting domestic tourism, the celebration of Ninoy Aquino Day may be moved from 21 August 2024 (Wednesday) to 23 August 2024 (Friday), provided that the historical significance of Ninoy Aquino Day is maintained,” as stated by President Marcos Jr. in the proclamation.

Ninoy Aquino Day will commemorate the assassination of former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., the husband of the late former President Corazon Aquino.

Additionally, the Department of Labor and Employment will issue a circular to implement this proclamation for the Private Sector as directed by the President.
