Relaunch of the HECHO EN MÉXICO certification mark: Promoting quality and sustainable economic development

On 17th February 2025, the AGREEMENT was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, introducing the HECHO EN MÉXICO and MADE IN MEXICO certification marks, along with their usage rules. The relaunch of the HECHO EN MÉXICO mark is considered one of the priority actions of the Plan México, presented on 13th January 2025. This plan is a strategy of the Federal Executive Power aimed at achieving equitable and sustainable economic development, promoting shared prosperity.

The main objective of this AGREEMENT is to simplify the procedures for obtaining authorisation to use the HECHO EN MÉXICO and MADE IN MEXICO certification marks, so that as many national producers as possible can access them. Additionally, it aims to recognise the quality of Mexican products by authorising the use of these certification marks.

Among the key points of the AGREEMENT, the following are highlighted:

  1. The distinctive signs and denominations of the HECHO EN MÉXICO and MADE IN MEXICO certification marks are included.
  2. Authorisation to use the certification marks will be granted through the Normativity, Competitiveness, and Competition Unit of the Ministry of Economy, in accordance with the established usage rules.
  3. The Honourary Promoter Council "Hecho en México" is created as a consultative body, made up of representatives from the Mexican business, industrial, and creative sectors, in line with the operational rules issued by this collegiate body.
  4. Among the established requirements, two key points are specified: that the goods manufactured are of national origin and/or that their manufacture takes place in Mexico, regardless of the origin of the inputs, and that it is demonstrated that affirmative actions are implemented in the manufacturing process to comply with one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
  5. The authorisation to use the certification marks will be valid for 5 years.
  6. Additionally, the permitted uses of the certification marks, renewal requirements, reasons for cancellation, and procedures for imposing sanctions are detailed.
