Gene Kwee Partner, Head of Tax APAC
"Technical competency of the highest level is expected from a tax partner, but as important is the ability to understand the practical considerations and needs of the client. It requires the application of common sense and a commercial approach. As such, I strive to deliver practical tax advice tailored to the 'real world' of business and relish the opportunity to find the most effective outcome.”
Gene is the Head of Tax for Forvis Mazars in Singapore with more than 24 years of experience as a Tax Advisory Specialist, including his 12 years of experience as an international tax lawyer for one of the biggest firms in Amsterdam and Singapore. He also co-founded a Tax Advisory legal business which he grew to an 18-man team in just four years.
Gene’s main areas of focus include cross-border tax planning, setting up private equity and venture capital structures, finance transactions, transfer pricing and tax advisory services. He is also well-versed in dealing with both corporate and private clients in respect their cross-border tax transactions.
Gene’s previous portfolios include advising and working with private equity firms from Indonesia and from India with respect to their investment structure and the associated tax implications from such, advising a Singapore company on the tax considerations for its activities in Brazil, as well as, advising a shipping company on how to optimise import duties upon importing vessels.
