Jilly grew up in Glenageary in County Dublin, as the eldest of two children. She has one younger brother who did a PhD in Trinity and now works for a medical device company in Chicago. “My interest in business began at a young age. My Mum was a management accountant in Diageo before joining my Dad’s business. My Grandad was a Chartered Accountant and was always convinced I would follow in his footsteps.”
She began her education in Kill O’ The Grange National School, Deansgrange, before progressing to secondary school at St. Andrews College in Booterstown. “My two favourite subjects in school were business and accounting. From the age of fifteen, my partner Philip was always convinced that I would work in audit (not sure if that is a compliment or not!).”
Jilly then pursued business and management at third level in DIT Aungier Street, where she specialised in accounting in her final two years.
One of Jilly’s early hobbies included horse riding, which she enjoyed from the age of 10 into her mid-twenties. She is a loyal Leinster Rugby supporter and optimistically has tickets for the Heineken cup final 2024.
“I joined Mazars as a graduate in November 2011, qualifying in 2015. Throughout my Mazars career I have worked in the privately owned business (POB) division. In POB we work with growing, entrepreneurial businesses across multiple sectors including technology, retail and professional services. I particularly enjoy working with dynamic businesses. Interacting with business owners and key members of the finance team daily means that I get an in-depth understanding of their business and the various issues that arise.”
“It was always a goal of mine to become an audit partner. I have worked closely with Lorcan Colclough and Emer O’Riordan throughout my career and they have both been extremely supportive of my career goals as well as excellent mentors to me.”
“My favourite thing about working in Mazars is the culture and the people – the work environment here is very collaborative. Throughout my time at Mazars I have been fortunate enough to work with colleagues in tax, corporate finance, financial advisory, consulting, outsourcing and IT audit. There is a lot of opportunity for progression and hard work is truly recognised and rewarded. I love seeing people I work with progress and reach their goals – whether that is passing exams or getting promoted.”
Jilly and her partner Philip were in school together. He works in private equity and has always been a fantastic support throughout her career.
