Digital publishing survey
We are delighted to share with you the key findings of the Mazars’ digital publishing survey 2012 which reveal key challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
The survey was designed to provide an insight into the current state of the sector and focused on how digital has affected business and the industry to date, and how the sector is likely to evolve in the future.
We surveyed a cross section of publishers, authors, agents and service providers, including representatives from the ‘big six’ publishing houses and from independent niche publishers, at the London Book Fair 2012. Our analysis is based on 182 responses.
Key findings include:
- Over 60% of respondents believe that digital will have a positive impact on publishers overall
- Traditional publishing houses risk failure unless they adapt their business model to the digital environment
- The industry expects to see more interactive content in e-books going forward
- Self publishing is not seen as a major threat to publishers however piracy in the digital ages is a key concern for future profitability.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank respondents for the time and thought they devoted to completing this survey.
