HST Rate Reduction in Nova Scotia

The government of Nova Scotia has announced a reduction in the harmonized sales tax rate in the province.

Since April 1, 2025, Nova Scotia applies a reduction in its harmonized sales tax (“HST”) rate, lowering it from 15% to 14%. The government stated that this measure aims to assist individuals facing difficulties due to the rising cost of living and additional taxes imposed by the federal government.

It is essential for businesses established in Nova Scotia to account for this change in their accounting systems to ensure compliance with the new tax requirements. This 1% reduction may have an impact on your pricing, tax filings, and billing processes.

Businesses will need to adjust their accounting and invoicing software to reflect this new rate starting now.
