POPIA and PAIA compliance: how we can help
POPIA
The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“ POPIA”).
POPIA has been in effect since 11 April 2014, but have been in limited implementation until 1 July 2020 after the announcement by the President of the Republic of South Africa., except for Sections 110 & 114 (4) of POPIA the remaining Sections were put into operation. The aforesaid effectively gave the public (Legal entities/ natural persons) until 30 June 2021 to be compliant with POPIA.

PAIA
Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (“PAIA”)
PAIA was enacted to give effect to the constitutional right of access to information. PAIA came into operation on 9 March 2001.
Certain companies were exempted from compiling a PAIA manual (in terms of Section 51 (1) of PAIA).
The Minister for Justice and Correctional Service, however, Gazetted that the exemption is only extended until 30 June 2021.
