Facilitation payments and conflict of interests
During 2020, we investigated two (2) matters for our REIT that implicated a number of senior employees for alleged procurement and commission payment irregularities amounting to approximately R43 million.
The investigation emanated from a preliminary investigation which identified a facilitation payment of R2,1m in respect of extension of a loan facility After the presentation of our findings with extensive use of digital forensic techniques, the Board, the executives, at that time, offered their resignations. We further assisted our client by testifying as an expert in a commercial court with a particulars of claim.
